No this is not The Onion; that is an actually headline. With Memorial Day coming up, what better way to celebrate than by a burning cross of hate. I believe they say that propane is the most efficient fuel when it comes to totally insane racism from the darkest period of American history.

With the decision to constitutionally ban same-sex marriage and civil unions (marrying your sister is still cool so long as you’re her brother), as well as a far-far-right wing radicalized preacher with a penchant for genocide for homosexuals and offering parenting advice to parents of gay children that makes Sharia Law look like the buddy system, North Carolina is just step away from being a combination of Mississippi and Texas.

Now it seems residents in Reidsville, North Carolina are getting inundated with fliers inviting them to a May 26th Ku Klux Klan cross burning, which is  intended for “white people only.” Apparently the fliers don’t break a single law. Just in case you were curious, it’s evidently perfectly okay and legal to throw a whites-only cross burning party in North Carolina. Just remember to bring your own white sheets and a totally discredited and incoherent manifesto of a formerly imprisoned lunatic.

It seems Mrs. Pinnix found this flyer in her driveway that read the following:

Join us, the Loyal White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, for a rally and cross lighting, Saturday, May 26, Harmony, North Carolina. Free Admition [sic]-White People Only. No alcohol, drugs, fighting, glass bottles or weapons. Free on site camping-all major motels in area. Souvenirs. Vendors. Food and beverages for Sale. Cross lighting at dusk-a white unity event. Live country band. Security provided by LWK.

Wow, they call it a cross-lighting now? If only the Taliban had this type of PR. And vendors and souvenirs will also be available, just in case anyone was dying to get their hands on a limited edition crotched swastika tea cozy or a bullet that pierced the organs of an innocent black person.

And not to be outdone, the LWK created a recording on the Loyal White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan “24 Hour Hot Line,” which not only confirms the May 26 cross burning event, but includes a racist Dr Seuss rhyme.

This is the state I grew up in. The year I graduated high school (2006), they had a cross burning just like this a few counties over. This shit don’t surprise me at all.

We’ve all seeing the disgusting pictures of people “Trayvoning” on tumblr, the people who say it’s just a joke and the countless others who think it isn’t funny at all.

Sadly, there is also Facebook where there are a few groups who call themselves “sports teams” “professional sport leagues” and “community groups”. There’s more images, people who “like” these groups and so much blatant racism in these groups that I have to ask that people please report them so they be shut down.

I don’t want to appropriate anger here, so I’m going to lay out the facts as dispassionately as possible:

  • Jenny Hyun called for the genocide of black people. Even if you understand where she’s coming from and why her tirade was sparked off in the first place, there is no excuse for wishing genocide on any race. It is a monstrous thing to say. It is indefensible.
  • Frankly, if you understand where she’s coming from, you must know a lot of it stems from a grossly racist place. There is no excuse for that either.
  • Of course black people are hurt and angry. They have been told that they are less than human, that they deserve to be exterminated purely based on the colour of their skin and the awful stereotypes associated with that.
  • If they are lashing out, it is for good reason. Telling them to stifle that anger is telling them to stifle their own hurt. It is telling them to take their anger somewhere else so it doesn’t discomfit you. Maybe you didn’t intend for that, but that’s what it looks like.
  • It is not for us to tell them what to do with their anger.
  • It is not for us to tell them what to do with their anger.
  • So you should stop. Now.

My first year at Miami, MU Students for Life invited Pro-Choice Miami to watch  documentary about how abortion is secretly black genocide because Margaret Sanger believed in eugenics. When the film was over, they sat there expecting us to have had an epiphany; expecting me, as the only black member of PCM, to thank them for helping me to see the light. What they got was one of the most vicious verbal attacks I’ve ever dealt out. What people like MUSFL and Patricia Heaton don’t understand is that they don’t need to enlighten blacks about their oppression. They hold no secret knowledge that the poor uneducated black folks just can’t understand. What they have is a lack of knowledge and a lack of respect. White women weren’t the only ones who fought for the right to have an abortion. POC were and remain active leaders in the fight for reproductive justice. By perpetuating the myth of black genocide, you are denying black women their agency when it comes to making decisions about their own body and children. The tagline “The most dangerous place for an African American is in the womb” (seen on billboards touting the idea of black genocide) proves they have no idea about the reality of being black in America. You don’t have to look into womens’ bodies to see the genocide of black youth. Abortion allows black women to make private decisions about their own body and about the fate of their potential children. Who are you to tell a mother (potential or otherwise) about where her fetus which may or may not one day become a child will face danger? If she chooses that a child would be better off not being brought into the world at this time or that she would be better off not bring a child into the world in this time, that is her choice. You know where black mothers don’t get to make choices? On the street where their children are harassed by citizens and police alike, in schools where their children are told their unintelligent, in stores, in prisons, in airports, and, if people like Patricia Heaton had their way, in their own doctor’s offices. [People other than those who identify as women need and get abortions.] Emphasis is mine. Flawless commentary is flawless.
